5 things people are shocked Medicare doesn't cover.
1. No annual out-of-pocket maximum with Original Medicare. A $100,000 approved surgery could leave you responsible for roughly $20,000.
2. Long-term custodial care. Help with bathing, dressing, or long-term nursing home care generally isn't covered by Medicare.
3. Prescription drugs aren't automatic. You typically need separate Part D coverage for outpatient prescription drugs.
4. Routine dental, vision, and hearing care. Cleanings, dentures, eye exams, glasses, and hearing aids generally aren't covered by Original Medicare.
5. Most healthcare outside the U.S. Original Medicare generally provides very limited overseas coverage.
And the biggest gap may be the decision you make when you first enroll.
