Mortgage Market Update – Week of Sept 22, 2025 📊
Rates are holding near 11-month lows, but this week could bring some swings. Here’s what’s on the radar:
🔹 This Morning:
10-yr Treasury ~4.12% (a touch lower = supportive for rates)
MBS slightly softer, so rate sheets opened about flat vs. Friday
Freddie Mac’s weekly survey: 30-yr fixed at 6.26% (down from 6.35%)
🔹 This Week’s Big Events:
Wed 9/24: New Home Sales 🏡
Thu 9/25: Durable Goods Orders 📦
Fri 9/26: The big one → PCE Inflation Report + Consumer Sentiment 📰
→ This is the Fed’s favorite inflation gauge, and it could move rates sharply.
💡 What this means for you:
If inflation data comes in cooler than expected, rates could improve further. If it’s hotter, expect lenders to reprice higher quickly.

A few key events this week could impact interest rates and mortgage pricing:
✅ Tue, Sept 16 – NAHB Homebuilder Confidence Index (builder sentiment update)
✅ Tue–Wed, Sept 16–17 – Federal Reserve Meeting (policy statement & press conference on Wed; the big market mover)
✅ Wed, Sept 17 – Housing Starts & Building Permits (fresh read on housing supply)
✅ Wed, Sept 17 – MBA Mortgage Applications (weekly demand update)
✅ Treasury Auctions – Multiple note/bill sales this week that could push Treasury yields (and mortgage rates).
💡 Current 30-year fixed rates are averaging around 6.25–6.30%, slightly lower than last week. Mortgage applications jumped 9.2% as borrowers took advantage of the dip.
