We have continued to feel the love from our community this week. We had lunches provided by Pleasant Valley South Baptist and Synovus Bank in Rome. We are so thankful for these gifts and for your many prayers over these past few weeks!

Just a reminder that we are fully operational in both the property tax and tag offices in the former law enforcement center. We are on the 1st floor at 5 Government Plaza. Parking is available in front of the building, on the street, or in the 6th Avenue parking deck. You can still park in the lower section of the courthouse parking lot on 5th Avenue, if you access from the west side of the 5th Avenue bridge. Our phone numbers have not changed:
Property Tax: 706-291-5148
Tag Office: 706-291-5150
Open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Due to damage to the belltower of Floyd County’s Historic Courthouse, the structure must be stabilized to be safe before officials can determine whether it can be preserved for future generations. Fifth Avenue and Tribune Street will remain closed for several more weeks.

Visible cracks have been identified on the Tribune Street side of the belltower where it joins the main building. Based on the recommendation of the structural engineer retained by the county’s insurer, all streets within the belltower’s potential collapse radius must remain closed and unoccupied until stabilization is complete.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this work moves forward.

A quick reminder that only the property tax office will be fully functional today. We still cannot process tag or title functions yet. But we will be answering phones and assisting anyone. We’re at 5 Government Plaza, directly across the street from the historic courthouse.

The Floyd County property tax office will be open tomorrow during regular hours from 8-5 at the former law enforcement building, 5 Government Plaza. This is directly across 5th Avenue from the historic courthouse. We are located on the 1st floor. Tag office will be open Monday. Please spread the word. This will be our new home for the foreseeable future. Bear with us. Things won’t be perfect, but we’ve cobbled together a functional office in 48 hours thanks to unbelievable efforts of multiple county partners.

Quick update. Efforts are already underway to open a new temporary office, across 5th Avenue from the historic courthouse, in the former law enforcement center. Equipment and inventory have been ordered. We believe the property tax office will be open by Thursday. It will be the 1st of next week for the tag office. We simply don’t have the equipment yet and we must get a shipment of inventory from the Department of Revenue as well. Please continue to use floydcountytax.com. Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times.

As many of you are aware, we lost our beautiful historic courthouse today to a fire. Thank God for the Facilities staff who warned us to get out and the firefighters and 1st responders who ran into the fire while we ran out. Please be patient as we attempt to recover and pick up the pieces. Many services can be handled from www.floydcountytax.com. We hope to have a temporary office set up soon, but likely in a week or so. We will keep the public informed as soon as possible.

For January 23, 2026, Release:

Floyd County Admin Offices on Delayed Start

Due to forecasted inclement weather, Floyd County administrative offices will delay opening until 10:00 AM on Monday, January 26, 2026.

Chief Judge John E. Niedrach issued an order to close the Floyd County courthouse and declaration of judicial emergency for Monday, January 26, 2026. The courthouse will reopen on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, unless the emergency is extended by further order of the court.

An ice storm warning has been issued for much of north Georgia for ice accumulations of 0.25 to 1” with locally higher amounts possible. Gusty winds 20-30 mph at times will enhance the risk of downed trees and powerlines potentially resulting in power outages. Extreme cold behind the system late Sunday night into Monday morning will likely result in a re-freeze of any liquid or ice remaining.

The delayed opening will give officials time to assess road and weather conditions. All essential personnel will report as scheduled unless they have made other arrangements with their supervisors. Any employees who may still have traveling difficulties due to the weather at 10:00 AM will need to contact their supervisors to make other arrangements.

We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and share any updates on our website www.floydcountyga.gov and social media outlets. # # #
