In the past two months, my buddy’s had 2 family members have car accidents. Neither were considered major.
And yet, shortly after came the lawsuits.
Sadly, it’s become the American way.
Not to say every lawsuit is frivolous. Many are legit.
How much you are compensated is a negotiation between who’s receiving (the plaintiff) and who’s paying (the rest of us whose premiums depend on annual payouts).
Fortunately, both of the family members took the recommendation to have a Personal Liability Umbrella Policy.
These are inexpensive and they add an additional layer of protection in the event of a personal liability lawsuit.
I’ve spoken to so many customers and prospects who are under the mistaken impression that if they are sued, the other party will just go away when their attorneys figure out they have very low liability limits.
Incorrect.
There’s an entire industry called personal injury and they’re good at what they do. They identify your assets - including home equity, savings, toys, rental properties, extra vehicles - plus your future income (legally in play in most states) add their 30-35% and go after it.
“Come at me, bro” is a bad attitude with the legal profession. They will definitely take you up on it.
Or, pay about $13 to $35 a month and not have to deal with it.
Both of his relatives have the legal defense of the insurance carrier and the suits will be settled without them having to step foot into a courtroom.
Come at me = no.
$13-35 = yes.
Give me a call.
