CATIC is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Jay Murphy, Esq. to its Board of Directors.

Ms. Murphy brings more than three decades of leadership and experience in Florida real estate law, title insurance, and regulatory affairs. She currently serves as a consultant to the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA) on legislative and regulatory matters and is widely recognized as one of Florida's leading authorities on title insurance and real property law.

Prior to her retirement in 2025, Ms. Murphy served as General Counsel for a leading bar-related title insurance provider. Earlier in her career, she spent many years in private practice focusing on title examination, underwriting, and real estate transactions.

“Melissa's reputation, leadership, and deep knowledge of the title industry make her an exceptional addition to our Board,” said James M. Czapiga, Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer of CATIC. “As CATIC continues to expand its presence in Florida and other growth markets, her insight and experience will be invaluable in helping guide our strategic direction.”

Ms. Murphy has been an active leader within the title and legal professions throughout her career. She served as President of the Florida Land Title Association from 2024 to 2025 and previously chaired its Government Affairs Committee and Insurer Section. She has also held numerous leadership positions within The Florida Bar's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, including Chair of the Title Insurance Committee and Chair of the Section.

We are excited to announce the newest addition to our Southeast team, Linda Monaco, Esq., who will be supporting our educational offerings in Florida and the Southeast region. Linda is a well-known and respected voice within the Florida title and real estate industry. A Board Certified Real Estate Attorney, she has an extensive background and experience in education, training, and program development. In her previous roles, she focused on developing and delivering informative educational programs, supporting business initiatives, and consulting on training strategies to improve engagement and operational effectiveness. In this role, she will collaborate with CATIC leadership and team to advance our education platform and support ongoing professional development efforts in Florida and across the Southeast region.

We are excited to announce the newest addition to our Southeast team, Kara Scott, Esq., who joins us as Agency Counsel in Florida. Kara will be supporting our growth initiatives by recruiting and serving the needs of Florida attorney title agents by providing exceptional service and support to increase their level of business with CATIC. She will also work collaboratively with CATIC’s education, sales, and underwriting teams to create and present informative trainings to agency attorneys and staff including seminars, webinars, realtor/agent partner trainings, as well as title industry and live events.

Kara brings extensive experience as a real estate attorney with a strong background in residential and commercial transactions, title review, and client advisory services. Most recently, she has served as a Legal Education Attorney with another underwriting company, where she developed and presented continuing legal education programs and provided guidance on real estate law and transactions. Prior to that, Kara worked as a title and closing attorney in Florida, handling a high volume of real estate transactions, advising clients, reviewing title commitments, and overseeing closings. She also spent over a decade as an associate and partner at a Rhode Island-based firm, where she conducted hundreds of closings annually and built a reputation for strong client advocacy and negotiation.

Kara is admitted to practice law in Florida, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, and brings deep knowledge of real estate law, title issues, and regulatory compliance. Her experience across multiple jurisdictions and roles will be a valuable asset to our agents and partners.

We are excited to announce the newest addition to our Florida team, Margaret (Maggie) Thumberg, Esq. who joins us as VP, Operations Manager. Maggie will support our Florida operations, working closely with departmental managers, agents and partners to enhance operational efficiency, support business growth, and drive strategic initiatives across the state.

As a Florida Board Certified Real Estate Attorney and title industry expert, Maggie brings over 20 years of experience in real estate and title insurance with a strong background in operations, education, production, underwriting, and technology transformation. Previously, Maggie held several leadership roles at another underwriter including Director of Professional Education & Title Plant Operations and Senior Underwriting Counsel, where she played a key role in developing training programs, advising agents on underwriting matters, and leading large-scale system migrations and process improvements. Most recently, she served as Title Plant Manager at a national underwriter company, where she led the strategic vision and operations of a multi-county title plant, including modernization of technology platforms and oversight of vendor, financial, and operational functions.

Maggie has been actively involved in the Florida Bar as well as various real estate and legal organizations. She brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a strong commitment to supporting agents that will enhance the overall customer experience.

Last night, Lubov Levin (Business Development Manager, CATIC Commercial) and Terrence Pricher (Associate General Counsel) represented CATIC at the American Heart Association's Lawyers Have a Heart 5K at Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. This charity race hosts thousands of runners and walkers to support the life-saving research, education, and community programs of the American Heart Association.
