There aren’t many things in life that are free.
However, peace of mind at a reasonable cost is priceless. As everyone knows last year, our area was hit with several storms that caused damage to many peoples homes.
As a licensed insurance adjuster working for several different insurance carriers, we ran across several homes who were told to file claims due to storm damage. However, the homes that we inspected did not in fact have any damage. As there were several that did have damage related to the storm.
Unfortunately, a lot of claims are filed each year with hopes of having a carrier cover the cost of a roof or siding. There is one aspect regarding an insurance policy that many homeowners believe is a maintenance type of policy. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Insurance policies cover direct physical loss/damage related to a specific event, such as a hailstorm, windstorm or tornado. This does not include several storms over course of a few years. There are many homes that suffered minor damage, which may or may not justify a claim. Not every home has damage, not all damage warrants a claim. There may be an issue with a roof being 20+ years old, yes it can damage very easily but it can also be wear and tear and not related to a storm. Filing a claim for current conditions that do not fall under the storm damage category can greatly impact your policy premium.
What happens when your house is inspected and minor damages are found which may or may not exceed your deductible? This is recorded as a claim that was not paid out. This could raise your premiums moving forward. In the case of a catastrophic event chances are your premiums will rise regardless if you file a claim or not. One important aspect is to have your home inspected by a third-party who has no vested interest in your property, other than an honest and fair assessment of your home at a reasonable fee.
What we offer are three types of inspections. These inspections include a roof only inspection, a roof and siding inspection and also a full exterior inspection. Each inspection comes with a photo report with all photos labeled as to what was captured, a summary of the inspection with details relating to the type of shingle, storm and non storm related damage or defect identification and much more. This report can and should be shared with your insurance company if a claim is warranted. This report can also be shared with your contractor of choice. We do not sell our service in hopes of receiving contracting work. We are independent adjusters with construction experience as well as experience with carriers and we understand the criteria to help determine if a claim is warranted. There are no strings attached, no high-pressure selling, just a 3rd party non biased expert inspection at a reasonable cost.
