Some final photos of the project we called Hawthorne. The home was originally built in 1941 so bringing it as current and up to date was challenging. But we think it turned out beautiful. Colors, designs, features, etc... was a very custom effort between mother and daughter. It came together very nice and expresses the excellent design tastes of both individuals. I hope you find it as special as I do.

We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Final touches are going on, painting begins this week, cabinets are scheduled to begin installation by end of this week. Next we move into floors and tile work. Very exciting to see your long road of work coming together and revealing the end result you have worked so hard to create. Our picture for this week is the final build of the front porch/pergola. The gable has not been covered with roofing yet but here is what it looks like after the build. Enjoy.

I did not realize it had been so long since the last posting on Hawthorne. I guess with holidays, weather, and challenges with finding and purchasing all of the materials we need during COVID, time just got away from me. To catch up on where we are. We got past the rough-in inspection where plumbing, electrical, and HVAC duct work has to be installed. On the windows, we had to go to three different Lowes stores to find enough inventory to cover the entire house. With the siding, it came down to waiting 12+ weeks for delivery of vinyl siding, or taking hardy board, which was already in inventory a few miles up the road. Since we wanted a wider plank look to match the previous siding width, the hardy was not too expensive and as you see, provides a really nice look with a wide plank. Then came wall insulation, followed by drywall and now we are moving into that hump between construction and finishing touches. The screen porch is now framed, the front porch/pergola is in mid-construction, some primer painting has begun, floors and bathroom walls are getting prepped for tile with backer board, sanding of old trim/framing is going on and new is being installed.
There are still a few challenges to figure out because of this being a house built in 1940, but nothing major, just cosmetic. Some of the cabinets have arrived, and a tentative install date scheduled.
Things are getting very exciting as we move toward finishing touches. I will try to do better at getting those pictures out as we go. I hope you enjoy these updates and don't forget to like and share. Thanks for keeping up with Hawthorne.

Hawthorne project. Framing for the additions and changes. This begin to take shape. During COVID, material costs have gone up while material availability has gotten tighter. Fortunately we have not experienced excessively long delays during framing. Just painful price increases.
