Thanks to social media influencers, we have too many clients asking for the increased Minnesota Child Tax Credit to be claimed in their returns. We just to clarify that this was a change that the state put into place way before the tax season started, and that this credit is being taken into account already or included automatically for those wo qualify. You are not missing out on anything on your state returns. The proposed Federal Child Tax Credit increase is a different story and has not been made into tax law yet.

Tax season just got interesting, to stay the least. Unfortunately, the largest employer in the Rochester area needs to correct thousands of 2023 W-2 forms issued to employees with incorrect information, and the correction process might take until the end of February to finalize. And here we were hoping to crash the season and be almost done by March 10, when Ramadan is expected to start, if God wills.

An undisclosed number of Mayo Clinic employees were notified this week that the W-2 form for 2023 they received was inaccurate.

If you received a one-time tax rebate payment from the State of Minnesota this past year, most likely between August 16 and September 27, 2023, then you probably received a 1099-MISC Form from the state, which will need to be filed with your 2023 federal income tax return. Please have this form handy when you are filing your return. It looks like the one in the picture below. The amount you received (in Box 3 below) was between $260 and $1,300, depending on the number of persons on your tax return.

The payment schedule was as follows:

- $520 for married couples filing a joint return with adjusted gross income of $150,000 or less,

- $260 for all other individuals with adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less,

- Another $260 for each dependent claimed on your return, up to three dependents ($780).

Below is a list of documents required for marriage in Morocco:

1. An Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry. This affidavit is valid for six months from the date it is signed and notarized at the U.S. Consulate.
2. Copies of your biographic passport and the page containing your entry date to Morocco
3. If divorced, provide original or certified copies of proof of dissolution of any previous marriage(s).
4. If former spouse is deceased, provide original or certified copy of his or her death certificate.
5. Provide an original or certified copy of your birth certificate.
6. Evidence of employment from employer in the United States or source of income.
7. A written statement indicating your intention to marry in Morocco.
8. If male, a notarized statement of religious denomination or a certified copy of a conversion document to Islam. (Conversion documents are obtained from and notarized by Adouls, or religious/court notarials, at the Ministry of Justice in Rabat.) Women do not need this document.
9. A medical certificate of good health from a doctor in Morocco. This document must be obtained in Morocco.
10. Four (4) recent passport photos (3cm x 4cm, please note this is the same size required for a Moroccan passport).
11. The fee for submitting an application for marriage to an Adoul is 150 Moroccan Dirham.
12. An American police record must be obtained from a police department in the state where you last resided or from the FBI BEFORE coming to Morocco.

This year, the Immigrant Solutions Center (ISC) updated its office space with larger offices and lobby area. We are still at the same address, same building and suite number. This change will help better accommodate our growing client population and make ISC more wheelchair accessible.
