The "family glitch" under ACA meant that individuals didn't generally qualify for Marketplace premium tax credits if they had "affordable" job-based coverage. An employer plan was not considered affordable if an employee paid more that 9.5% of household income toward premiums. However, the calculation for affordability did not include the family premium, only the employee's premium.

For 2024, if your paying more than 8.39% of your income for insurance, you can get ACA coverage with premium tax credits. If the employee pays less, they can stay on their employers plan and the rest of the family can move to the ACA Marketplace health insurance and receive the premium tax credit.

When I help you select a health insurance plan from the ACA Marketplace, we look at which plans will best protect you and your family and which ones meet 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀. My goal is to help you avoid medical debt while keeping your health insurance affordable!

When a client tells me, “I don’t want to pay a lot every month, I’m healthy.” Great, we’ll look at the high deductible plans available in your area. If you qualify for a healthy subsidy, I’ll be looking to see if you can get a very low cost Silver Plan.

With a high deductible plans, I will show you some ways to protect yourself should you have an accident, be hospitalized, etc.

While I will show you options, I will not pressure you to choose anything. I will educate you on your options so you can make the best decision for you!

I wrote a final expense policy for a woman a few months ago. The insurer would not cover her on the plan we applied for because of one drug she had taken in the past that came up on her prescription check.

The insurer offered her a policy that was $30 more per month. 😲 She told me to forget it. She couldn’t afford it.

I reminded her that because I am an independent agent, I work with a number of insurers, and we should look at a different insurer.

The good news is that we found her an 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 with a different insurer. 😀 She has 𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑐𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑑 knowing that her family will not have to come up with the funds to pay her final expenses.
