Behind every successful business is a lot of hard work, long days, and people who support you along the way.

I’m incredibly thankful for my wife, Emily, and the support she gives me every day. Being an insurance broker comes with its fair share of challenges. Through it all, she has always been my biggest supporter and encourager.

She believes in me, pushes me to be better, and supports the goals and dreams I have for my career. A lot of what I do wouldn’t be possible without her encouragement.

I’m blessed to have a wife who is always in my corner. I may be the face you see when it comes to your insurance, but there’s someone behind the scenes who deserves a lot of credit too.

The phones are already starting to ring after the recent storms, so I wanted to share a few tips that could save you time, money, and frustration.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that homeowners insurance covers flooding. Unfortunately, it doesn’t. Flood damage requires a separate flood insurance policy. However, if water entered your home because of a sump pump failure, drain backup, or sewer backup, you may have coverage if your policy includes Water Backup coverage.

If your basement has water in it, don’t wait to start cleaning it up. Remove as much standing water as you safely can, get fans and dehumidifiers running, move belongings off the floor, and take plenty of photos of any damaged property. Acting quickly can help prevent mold and additional damage.

If you’re thinking about hiring a restoration company, keep in mind that they can be expensive. If your Water Backup coverage has a limit, it’s important to use those dollars wisely, especially if you’ll also need to replace flooring, drywall, or other building materials.
