In June, our Technology Director, Carmen Sacco, had the incredible privilege of participating in Honor Flight Mission 96, traveling to Washington, D.C., alongside 59 fellow veterans to visit the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

Carm served our country in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic during the Vietnam era. After returning home, he received the heartfelt welcome so many veterans of his generation never experienced. As Carm shared, "Emotions ran high from a grateful bunch of vets like me."

We are proud to honor Carm's service and grateful to the Honor Flight organization for making this unforgettable experience possible.

The End of an Era and the Start of a New Chapter 🎉

After 15 incredible years with High Falls Advisors, we’re celebrating the retirement of our friend and colleague, Tim Verna. From tackling complex tax questions and mentoring teammates to bringing humor and wisdom to every day, Tim has made a lasting impact on our clients, our team, and our culture.

We recently gathered with family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate Tim’s retirement and thank him for his years of dedication. While we’ll certainly miss his expertise (and his quick wit!), we’re excited for him as he begins this next chapter filled with road trips, gardening, and well-deserved relaxation.

Celebrating Excellence and Service: Highlights from High Falls Advisors’ 2026 Q1 SOCA

High Falls Advisors held our 2026 Q1 State of the Company Address (SOCA) on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

At this company-wide meeting, we reviewed where we've been, where we are, and where we’re going, ensuring everyone is aligned on our journey.

In addition, it was a chance to recognize “wins” for the company. This quarter, we honored Jamie Bushart with the High Five Award. The High Five Award is for an employee who goes above and beyond in service to our clients. Jamie’s dedication is illustrated by the number of notes and comments received from clients. Comments like “Awesome,” “Great follow through,” and “Always responsive.”

Raechel Taddei received the Core Value Award. This quarter, we highlighted the value of EXCELLENCE: “Good enough is not enough.” Illustrations of the Excellence value include:

- We go the extra mile for clients and each other.
- Our personal standards of performance and excellence are always higher than our clients’ expectations.
- We are fiduciaries to our clients. We act in their best interest at all times.
- We act with principles and integrity.
- We are accountable.
- We are kind to others.

Following the meeting, we took the afternoon to celebrate our successes. We traveled to the New York Kitchen in Canandaigua, where we prepared and shared a celebratory lunch. Employees paired up and prepared fresh homemade pasta, vegetable marinara sauce and vodka blush sauce. When the cooking was done, the eating began. Bon appetit!

Meet the newest (and quietest) member of the High Falls Advisors team! 🐟

It all started when our CEO & President, Ken Burke, surprised our EVP & CCO, Jen Vogler, with a brand-new fish tank for her office. Jen picked out the perfect fish to call it home, but there was one thing missing: a name.

Naturally, we turned it into a firm-wide competition. After some stiff competition from names like FIN Alysis, The CodFather, and Asset Indego (AI), we have a winner.

The name that took the top prize? Swim Shady. 🎤

(And yes, the winning name was submitted by Ken himself. Coincidence? We’ll let you decide!)

While Swim Shady is technically our new mascot, he’s currently leaning into the ""Shady"" part of his name—he spends most of his day hiding under his favorite rock. However, Ken has become the ""Fish Whisperer,"" occasionally coaxing him out for a few seconds of fame.

The recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act has brought about several changes to the federal tax system beginning in 2025. Most notably, there’s been an increase in the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction and an introduction of several new deductions.
