2021 was a landmark year for life insurance payouts, which is a reminder of the importance of life insurance and the impact it can have on your family and future generations in the event of a passing, especially when sudden. Don't shy away from purchasing an individually owned life insurance policy. As this article notes, most benefits paid out in 2021 were not from employer-based life insurance policies but from individually owned life insurance policies. While the payout increase for 2021 is attributed to Covid-19 deaths, there has been an annual increase since 1918.

It’s that time of the year where so many of my friends and customers are vacationing and renting vehicles. I get asked all the time, “will I be covered if I rent a car?” Below is a quick guide on coverages when renting a vehicle.

What Coverage Applies?

· The broadest coverage on the policy applies. This includes towing.

· Customers with Liability only should purchase Physical Damage coverage from the rental company.

· Coverage only applies in the U.S., its territories and possessions, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

· Coverage applies to operators meeting the definition of a “family member.” This includes operators related to the named insured or resident spouse by:

Blood, Adoption, Marriage (including in-laws), Civil union, Domestic partnership, wards or foster children.

· Coverage doesn’t apply to roommates or friends.
