Tell us about a local Michigan business you love. A coffee shop, a restaurant, a boutique, a service provider, anyone doing great work right here in our community.

Small and local businesses are the ones who sponsor the Little League team. Who hire from the neighborhood. Who remember your name and your usual order. Who pour back into the community in a hundred quiet ways.

This week, let's show some of them a little love.

Drop your favorite in the comments. Tag them if you can.

To every dad showing up in the ways that matter most, today is for you.

The ones who taught us how to ride a bike, change a tire, and stand up for ourselves.

The ones who showed up at every game, every recital, and every small moment that probably mattered more to us than anyone realized.

The ones who lead quietly, work hard, and somehow always know what to say when it counts.

The ones we miss today. The ones we will call later. The ones who became dads in non-traditional ways and stepped up anyway.

From all of us at Allied Insurance Managers, happy Father's Day.

Tomorrow is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. ☀️

But here is something interesting. Even though today has the most sunlight, it is not the hottest day of the year. The hottest weather usually shows up in late July or August.

Why? Something called seasonal lag. The Earth's surface and oceans take weeks to fully warm up, even as the sun is doing its part. The heat builds slowly, layer by layer, until it peaks well after the longest day has come and gone.

There is something to that idea. The biggest results often show up well after the work has been done. Some things just take time to come together.

Happy first day of summer. Soak up the daylight while you can.

Today we recognize Juneteenth.
On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.
Juneteenth is a day to reflect on freedom, the long road toward it, and the work that continues. It is a moment to honor the resilience and contributions of Black Americans who shaped this country, often without recognition.
We are taking time today to remember, to learn, and to listen.

Heading out on a summer trip soon? A few things to make life easier on the road.

Pack a "first night" bag with what you actually need the first night. Toothbrush, pajamas, charger, medication. You will thank yourself when you do not have to dig through a suitcase at midnight.

Snacks make or break a road trip. Trail mix, beef jerky, fruit, and something a little indulgent for when energy starts to fade.

Build the playlist before you leave. Nobody wants to be the DJ at 70 miles per hour.

Look up gas station and rest stop options ahead of time on long stretches. Some areas of Michigan have longer gaps than people realize.

Where are you headed this summer? Drop your destination in the comments and tell us what you are most looking forward to.

Father's Day is this Sunday, and we want to hear from you.

What is the best piece of advice your dad ever gave you?

Maybe it was something serious that has stuck with you for years. Maybe it was completely ridiculous and you still quote it to this day. Maybe it was something he said offhand that you did not appreciate until you got older.

Some of ours:
"Measure twice, cut once. That goes for more than just wood."
"Always keep more gas in the tank than you think you need."
"Show up early, work hard, be kind. The rest figures itself out."

Drop your dad's best advice in the comments. We could all use a little wisdom on a Monday.

June is peak wedding season, and right now somewhere in Michigan, someone is finalizing seating charts and praying for clear skies.

To everyone tying the knot this month, attending a wedding, standing in a wedding, or planning one for next year, this is your reminder that this season is something special.

The first dances. The toasts that go on a little too long. The dance floor that fills up around 9 PM. The tired smiles at the end of the night.

It is one of those rare times where everyone in the room is rooting for the same thing.

If you are getting married in June, congratulations. We hope the day is everything you have been picturing.

Backyard BBQ season is officially in full swing, and we are here for it.

Whether you are firing up the grill for a crowd or just for yourself on a Tuesday night, here are a few tips that make the whole thing easier:
- Clean your grates while the grill is still warm. It takes thirty seconds and saves you a lot later.
- Take meat out of the fridge about twenty minutes before cooking. It cooks more evenly and tastes better.
- A small bowl of water mixed with a little dish soap near your gathering helps keep flies and bugs away naturally.
- Always have more ice than you think you need. Always.

What is your go-to thing to throw on the grill this season? Tell us your specialty in the comments.
