The top cash crop in the Lone Star State might surprise you… 🤔

Texas plants around 5 million acres of cotton every year. That’s an area roughly the size of New Hampshire. And despite Texas being known for beef, hay, and corn, cotton is actually our state’s #1 cash crop.

Texas supplies over a quarter of the entire U.S. cotton supply and generates more than $5 billion in statewide economic impact.

In 1906, The Tyler Commercial Club (later to be renamed the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce), with the help of the US Department of Agriculture, established the very first county agricultural agent in Texas, and the first in the nation to serve a single county. The Chamber has a proud history of supporting the ag community of East Texas, and we're honored to host the inaugural State of Agriculture on Wednesday, September 30 in partnership with the East Texas State Fair.
