Happy Senior Citizens Day!

Today is National Senior Citizens Day and a great opportunity to warn Veterans age 65+ on scams. Scams targeting seniors are on the rise! Scammers prey on the trust and financial stability of older adults, taking advantage of their vulnerability. Stay informed and protect your loved ones!

Top five scams:
• Sweepstakes/Lottery Scams: Scammers falsely claim lottery or sweepstakes wins, demanding a fee to collect the prize.
• Grandparent Scams: Scammers impersonate a distressed grandchild, urgently requesting money or gift cards for a fake emergency.
• Government Impersonation Scams: Fraudsters pose as government officials (even the VA), using fear to extort money by claiming you owe a debt.
• Tech Support Scams: A fraudster poses as tech support, falsely claiming computer problems, and gains unauthorized access to computers or personal information.
• Romance Scams: Scammers create fake online profiles to build trust with seniors, then request money or personal information.

If a Veteran is missing a VA benefits payment, identifies a discrepancy in payments, or finds suspicious activity with their direct deposit account, contact the VA immediately at 800-827-1000.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act: Key Tax Changes Starting 2025

👍EVERYONE 👍
Standard deduction increases to $15,750 for single filers, and $31,500 for those filing jointly.
State and local tax (SALT) deduction increases to $40,000 (temporary)

👥 SENIORS (65+) 👥
$6,000 bonus deduction (2025-2028)

👨‍💼 WORKERS 👨‍💼
No tax on tips (up to $25,000)
No tax on overtime (up to $12,500 single filer/$25,000 married filing jointly)

🏢 BUSINESS OWNERS 🏢
20 percent qualified business income deduction is now permanent
100 percent capital expensing restored

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILIES 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
Child tax credit increases to $2,200
Dependent care limits increase to $7,500

🏡 ESTATE MANAGEMENT 🏡
Exemption increases to $15 million/$30 million (starts 2026)

Medicare’s annual open enrollment period begins October 15 and ends December 7. There are major changes this year! During this time, current Medicare beneficiaries have the option to adjust their coverage for the coming year. Any changes to your plan will go into effect on January 1, 2025.

This is an opportunity to reassess your current coverage and identify potential areas for improvement. Maybe you’ve recently changed medication, find yourself underutilizing coverage, or are in need of additional benefits.
