If your waiting for conventional +mortgage rates (without paying points) to get into the 5's before you pull the trigger, you may be waiting longer than you think.
The Federal Reserve will announce it's rate cut decision on Wednesday 12/10. If they don't cut the Fed Funds rate, mortgage rates will go up. If they cut the interest rate, but use verbiage that sounds like they may not cut again, mortgage rates will also go up. The only way rates continue going down (in the short term) after the announcement is if they say this is the first of multiple rate cuts. It's highly unlikely that will happen!
If your waiting to lock in that lower rate, I would lock in before 2:00 on Wednesday. Mortgage rates have gone up after the last few interest rate cuts....Crazy, right?
