Do couples with children need life insurance?

Most definitely!

Life insurance through an employer will be the cheapest that you can get. However, it usually doesn't automatically apply to both parents and is only based upon your current salary. It may not be enough to support the surviving parent and the children.

If only one parent works then they should consider life insurance for both the primary earner and the stay-at-home parent. A surviving spouse may need help paying for the unpaid services that a parent provides at home.

Young couples, even without children, may have people who depend on them. They may take care of a parent, or help pay household expenses. The couples need to think about how hard financially it would be if the other one were to pass leaving behind a gap in income.
