I posted this last year but think its good info and should be posted again!
As the temperatures drop and stay below freezing, here are some tips to help prevent pipes from freezing. Remove your outside hose and turn the water off there and let the water run from the lines, also check your washing machine hoses regularly for wear and tear to prevent them from Bursting. Finally, if you are going away and you have pipes in your attic make sure the temp is set high enough to prevent them from freezing.

If you are renting, regardless if its an apartment, Home, or Condo, you should purchase a renters policy for several reasons. First it protects your personal property in case of a fire or if they are stolen, second you have Personal Liability which covers you anywhere in the world. In addition it covers you should you cause damage to where you are living or to a neighbors property. Finally its reasonably priced for the amount of coverage you can get.

A question I keep getting asked is about Insurance for Vacant homes. Can I even get that kind of coverage? Or how much does it cost? Or even do I even need that kind of coverage?

You can get coverage for vacant homes so long as the home is not in complete dis repair. The pricing varies based on the coverage for the dwelling. Finally yes if you are left that home or the are responsible you do need it to protect yourself and the Estate. Of course always consult your attorney for legal matters.

If someone falls on a raised sidewalk on the property or slips on an icy driveway, the entire Estate could be sued. Again please consult your attorney for all legal opinions and matters.
