Medicare Annual Enrollment is over. Oh, no!! I just opened up a letter from RMC, they don't take my insurance!! Oh, no! The plan I changed to sucks! Oh, no! That number I called on TV put me on a plan my doctor doesn't take!!
What will I do??

Hi, this is Phil, your local Health and Medicare agent, and Registered Representative, and I have a couple of tips for the week...

Be very wary of any call you get asking if you have received your Medicare updates. Agents such as myself ARE NOT allowed to outbound cold call, the likelihood is pretty high that any answer in the affirmative will get you switched to some plan YOU DON'T WANT. Just hang up on those calls, or check in with your trusted agent.

If you are on a Kaiser individual plan (enrolled through Covered CA) but DON'T qualify for the Federal Subsidy, Kaiser does have some plan options that could be less expensive if you buy direct.

if you're 65 or older, still working, and have employer coverage, you may not need to sign up for Medicare Part B until you retire? Answer a few questions at https://go.medicare.gov/43TfWvv to find out when it makes sense to sign up for Medicare.

I sat down with a potential client earlier for a Medicare consultation. He showed me his current group coverage, and it was very good. The benefits would have been comparable to Medicare (plus a supplement/MA plan), but at a substantially lower cost. I had to advise him to stay on his current group coverage through work until he was actually ready to retire. He thanked me for my honest advice, and told me he'd be giving me a call sometime next year when he actually does leave his job.
You'll never go wrong treating clients right.....

A recent federal rule change will allow recipients of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) to sign up for a health plan through Covered California starting Nov. 1, 2024. Eligible DACA recipients can receive financial help if they qualify.

Covered California will have a special-enrollment period that begins on Nov. 1 that will allow DACA recipients to sign up for health insurance. Those who apply in November using this special-enrollment period can have their plan start as early as Dec. 1, 2024.

This special-enrollment period will happen at the same time as Covered California’s open-enrollment period, when qualifying DACA recipients can also enroll in a health plan for the 2025 coverage year.
