Books By Rachel began with a leap of faith

After over 30 years managing finances and operations for an architectural firm in California’s Central Valley, I needed more flexibility to care for my family while caring for myself as well. In 2016, I launched Books by Rachel with the vision of offering high-integrity bookkeeping to a few trusted clients. My goal was dependable service rooted in deep experience and strong values.

Then came 2020. Like many, the pandemic brought a shift in my perspective. I saw that I could help more organizations without losing the personal care and clarity my clients count on. I began building systems that let us scale intentionally while staying grounded in our mission.

In 2021, my daughter Bethanie joined the team. In 2024, we welcomed Kami Alt as our payroll specialist. Today, we’re a growing firm proudly serving nonprofits and businesses across the country.

At Books by Rachel, we combine decades of expertise with a commitment to values-driven service. We’re here to help you build a stable, thriving organization so you can focus on what really matters: your mission.

With nearly 40 years of experience in bookkeeping, I strive to bring a well-rounded, mission-driven approach to everything we do at Books By Rachel. I began my career as an office manager for an architectural firm, where I wore many hats, from HR to financial operations. During those years, I overhauled our bookkeeping systems and learned how people, purpose, and business all work together.

In 2016 I launched Books By Rachel to support nonprofits and businesses across the U.S. with consistent, quality bookkeeping. What started as a solo venture has grown into a small dedicated team focused on helping organizations thrive.

I hold certifications in nonprofit accounting, QuickBooks Online, and even holistic wellness finance because I believe good bookkeeping is both practical and principled.
My goal is to make your organization more efficient, secure, and impactful so you can focus on making a difference.

Hi, I’m Rachel! I’m someone who places a high value on people and relationships, integrity, dedication, and compassion.

Growing up as a pastor’s daughter, I was surrounded by humble, authentic faith. While people sometimes make jokes about that kind of upbringing, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It laid a foundation of kindness, service, and purpose that I carry into every facet of my life.

These values shape my work. I believe bookkeeping isn’t just about numbers, it’s about trust, clarity, and coming alongside others so they can thrive in their mission.
When I get some free time, I like to spend it at church, with my family, at our getaway in Groveland, taking walks with our dog Willow or being tolerated by our cat Duchess, reading informative books, and watching mystery shows.

Hi there! I’m Bethanie, bookkeeper and operations manager for Books By Rachel!

I started out taking courses and earning a bookkeeping certification while training under Rachel and in 2021, I officially started as a junior bookkeeper. I very quickly found that I love the work and became a bigger part of the team by expanding my skills and taking on the role of operations manager. I work hard to provide accurate, precise bookkeeping for our clients and I love the feeling of a job well done. Knowing that we get to help our clients understand their finances, reach their goals, and make a difference fills me with pride.

Outside of work you can find me reading mystery novels in my hammock, watching horror movies, spending time in nature, making candles, and enjoying time with my friends and family. I love going on weekend trips and having new, exciting experiences.

I try to bring my dedication and passion to everything I do. I can’t wait to work with you and help your business reach its goals!
