Emergency Alert. Yeadon Police Public Alert and Information
Yeadon Police have become aware of a recent robbery of a postal worker in nearby Upper Darby. Once again keys that open mailboxes were stolen. These keys were used in the past by a group we arrested last year to steal mail and wash checks for new amounts.
If you dont need to use paper checks DONT. If you do use them for anything, please do the following;
1- Take the check if being mailed INSIDE the post office and hand it to a clerk to get stamped received the same day, dont use the mailbox outside of the post office, give it directly to a postal worker inside. To be safe, pay for postage while youre there versus putting a stamp on a head of time, so you know its in their hands.
2- Dont send checks though the mail to loved ones, get good with an app and send them gifts directly through an app like venmo or zelle for example. You know they get it, and there is no way to change the value this way.
3- Get in the habit of checking your bank accounts at least 2-3 times a week. Look at your balances and check images to detect fraud, and if noticed immediately contact your local PD for help.
4- Talk to yours who have their own debit or bank cards that giving the information related to the cards to someone who is telling them , "hey deposit this check and Ill give you money for doing it." will get them victimized as well. Thieves are doing this and walking away with all of the money and the persons identity as well.
5- If unsure about something like this, call me or email so we can talk. Information is gold, and the more you know the better you can protect yourself.
Other scams around the area;
Pop up covid testing sites. Scammers are doing this and asking for personal information and giving fake tests. You then are a victim of identity fraud. Check the PA Dept of Health website for actual covid testing sites before you just stop at a place you see. If in doubt call local police to determine site is valid, we get the info for such things all the time.
VET your home repair people. DONT PAY LARGE amounts of cash upfront to have work done before you see product and have ensured the company is legit. Get a contract with specific deadlines, refunds, and causes for action if work is not performed or completed properly. Take a picture of the workers, the vehicles and tags used, etc. Anything in public view is open to be recorded.
Using a local gym? Leave purses and wallets at home or put in trunk before you get there.
Visiting a park for a walk? Leave purses and wallets at home or put in trunk before you get there.
Thieves are breaking out windows to take things in plain view. Dont make it easy.
Be safe out there and remember vigilance can keep you from being a victim, complacency puts you in jeopardy.
On a better note, I wish all of you the safest, blessed, healthiest, and prosperous 2022! God bless you all.
