We're thrilled for Goochland High School educator Rachel Morrison, who was recently named by the Bill of Rights Institute as a finalist for National Civics Teacher of the Year! The winner will be announced later this month! Go, Ms. Morrison!!!

I funded the project "Launching Creative Writing Journals" of Ms. Turner and here's what she said when she received the materials:

Dear Eric Cofer With Horace Mann,

Students were so excited to decorate their journals with all of the fun materials provided! They took so much pride in making their journals their own. We have also implemented a Free Write Friday, where students are given time to write about whatever they choose—a personal narrative, a made-up story, their thoughts, or anything else they want to put on paper.

They are so excited to pull out their journals each Friday and have the freedom to write without specific directions or a required topic. It has been wonderful to see their creativity, excitement, and pride grow as writers. Thank you so much for helping make this experience possible for our students!
