Some days you’ll feel like you’re ahead, like a Boss and a creative genius, other days you’ll feel stagnant, uninspired and unsure. Growth is sporadic and unpredictable, 2 steps back for every 3 steps forward. Don’t be discouraged by this, Growth requires Rest. If you have a productive day or week, it is not abnormal to have a lull, call this Rest. Every growth spurt requires rest in between the next growth spurt to be effective. You can’t go from Peak to peak without walking through a Valley. Do listen to your self and be kind to yourself. If you’re in a growth season, give it all you got. If you’re in a rest season , clear your conscience don’t feel guilty or unworthy , take the break, rest, and prep for the next uphill battle that is sure to come your way. Remember, the journey itself is the point, not the destination.

1. Go to your states official website and find and fill out the unemployment benefits application
2. Once filed complete any additional requests. New Yorkers call the TCC (Telephone Claims Center) 1-888-209-8124 (NY only) Wednesday-Friday 8am-5pm EST in order to complete your application. **Side note-this line is incredibly busy, as everyone is trying to call. I’ve personally tried 25X this morning (4/1) alone and have yet to get through. I will keep you updated on the process when I get through**
3. Claim your benefits every week either online or by phone at 1-888-581-5812 (NY only)
Go online and file your benefit claim at the same place you filed the original application.
5. You must file for benefits WEEKLY. They will ask you a series of questions each time regarding your work and activity for that week.

Leave your questions in comment section in case anyone else has the same question. I’ll answer them!! Don’t be stingy pass this info to a friend or share to your feed or story. Let’s take care of each other!

Maybe you were prepared for this, maybe you weren’t. I think we can all agree that living through this time shows us the importance of staying ready. Just like with our art. If you stay ready, you never have to get ready. So it should be with our financial footing. I think we can all agree on one goal:

Creative Recovery is the process of exploring and excavating areas in your life and art that you may hold yourself back from, or presume to be lost or non existent; with the intention of bringing forth new and deeper parts of your Art. There are many reasons to need a Creative Recovery: fear, discouragement, doubt, insecurity, indecision, lack of clarity, imposter syndrome.
We all struggle with these things at one time or another, how do we actively recover?
1. Write it down. (Knowing Yourself) 3 page brain dump each morning, just write and clear the fog and chatter of your brain, every day.
This was hard and seemed pointless when I first started but now it is rare that I know how I feel about something until I have written it on paper.
2. Pamper Yourself. We are pretty sensitive as artists, some of us don’t care to admit it but we all are. Be kind to yourself, give yourself good vibes and be intentional with the thoughts surrounding your situation, don’t ruminate on the negative. Times are hard we all agree, now let’s actively not let it overtake our minds and hearts.
Remember: Stress kills Creativity.
Breathe. Endure. Persist.
