Meet Good Company!
(Formerly the 1717 Collective)

In 2024, seven organizations serving Richmond entrepreneurs came together around a shared observation: the support system was fragmented. Entrepreneurs were getting overwhelmed or going it alone, while organizations were duplicating efforts.

With support from Altria, Capital One, and the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond, the 1717 Collective launched an effort to strengthen the entire ecosystem.

Today, that work continues as Good Company.

Good Company is a regional initiative working to make the journey of entrepreneurship easier to navigate and more straightforward. Through Resource Navigation, Convenings, Storytelling, and Solutions Lab, Good Company helps entrepreneurs find their people, programs, and support while bringing organizations together to strengthen the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Right now, Good Company is partnering with Share More Stories on a study using its SEEQ storytelling and research platform to better understand how entrepreneurs actually experience the region’s support system.

Five years. One big mission. And so many people who made it possible.

Five years ago, Bridging Virginia began as a volunteer-led effort to help small businesses navigate an incredibly difficult moment. Today, we’re a certified CDFI working alongside historically marginalized small businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities across Virginia to connect people to the capital and support they need to grow.

To celebrate five years of Bridging Virginia, we created a special video capturing some of the people, places, and moments that have shaped our journey. It’s a look back at where we started, how far we’ve come, and the work that continues.

September is Workforce Development Month!

Through the Entrepreneur Empowerment Program (EEP), entrepreneurs spend six weeks building the skills, systems, and strategies they need to strengthen their businesses and create a foundation for sustainable growth.

For small business owners, workforce development is about developing the leadership, operations, financial knowledge, and business practices that help a company grow and create opportunities for the people who work within it.

We’re proud to support Culinary Concepts AB’s Entrepreneur Empowerment Program alongside our partners at Hatch and Capital One, helping entrepreneurs move from ideas and challenges to stronger, more sustainable businesses.

Join us for SPARK RVA: Igniting Entrepreneurs, the culminating showcase for this cohort as they celebrate six weeks of learning, growth, and putting those tools into practice.
