Feeling burned out on your budget?

It happens to all of us occasionally, and it’s not something you need to feel guilty about.

Instead, try to figure out what’s causing this feeling.

✔️Are you overwhelmed with other stuff going on in your life right now?
✔️Do you feel stressed or anxious every time you think about money?
✔️Are you in the middle of a big transition, like having a baby or changing jobs?
✔️Do you just feel uninspired by the spreadsheet or budgeting app you’re using?

Once you know why you’re feeling burned out, you can decide whether to address it right away or wait a while.

For example, if you just had a baby, maybe wait a few months before picking up your budget again.

Or if you’re changing jobs, figure out how salary changes may impact your budget once you start.

If you just don’t like the budgeting method that you’re using, change it up! We created BudgetingBlocks™ to make managing your finances easy, fun, and stress-free. No boring spreadsheets or complicated apps — just simple tools to help you visualize and allocate your money.

It’s never too early (or late!) to talk to your kids about money.

So how do YOU help them build practical budgeting skills?

No matter their ages, your kids will benefit from frequent, honest conversations about money. You don’t necessarily need to give them full access to your bank statements and credit card bills. However, being open about how you manage money in your household is a powerful way to inspire your children toward financial responsibility.

Talking about money isn’t the only way to teach your kids good financial habits. They should also have experiences that will allow them to work through the practicalities of finances. In other words, you should teach your children to budget. Here are a few easy ways to start.

1. Cover the basics of budgeting
2. Include them in purchases
3. Create and follow a basic budget
4. Play budgeting games

Good money management skills don’t just happen. They take time and practice, which is why it’s important to start teaching your kids about money from a young age. Keep the conversation about finances open, and introduce more complicated concepts as they get older. The basics of saving and spending set the stage for later conversations about investing, paying for college, and living within your means.

Money is a big trigger for so many folks.

Talking about budgets, debt, or salaries can bring up intense emotions that obscure logic.

Sometimes, we need to reframe the conversation. Introduce a “spending plan” instead of a “budget.” Explain how to leverage debt instead of shaming your clients for having it. Essentially, find ways to overcome those biases and emotional triggers that we all carry.
