"Full coverage."

The phrase that shows up in almost every insurance conversation we have with a new customer and almost always means something different than what they think it means. There is no standardized product called full coverage. It is not a legal term. It is shorthand for "collision and comprehensive in addition to liability" and it leaves out gap coverage, rental reimbursement, medical payments, and legal defense, among other things.

One of the most common insurance mistakes parents make this time of year is adding a teen to the household's vehicle before the policy has been reviewed. Not intentionally, just under the assumption that the policy automatically handles it. It may. It may not and the gap between those two outcomes matters more for teen drivers than for almost any other coverage update.
