Tax-loss harvesting allows an investor to sell an investment that has declined below its purchase price, realize the loss, and potentially use that loss to offset capital gains elsewhere in the portfolio. In some circumstances, losses can also be used against certain types of income, with unused losses potentially carried forward.

There’s an important distinction, though: the tax benefit should never be the sole reason for making an investment decision.

At Curo, tax-loss harvesting is considered within the context of the broader portfolio, future gains, cash needs, and tax situation. Sometimes the opportunity is significant, while other times it simply doesn’t make sense.

If you're wondering whether this applies to your portfolio right now, we'd love to take a look at it with you: curoprivatewealth.com/get-in-touch

In this episode, we’ll talk about how to help adult children without compromising your own financial future. Here’s a sneak peek 🔎

☎️ When a daughter needs $25,000 during a divorce, the bank balance alone does not answer whether to say yes.

🧾 The real question is what that $25,000 was already earmarked for in your plan, like retirement income or long-term care.

✅ Running the scenario can support a joyful yes, or help you offer less without compromising your own long-term plan.

There's an old saying in estate planning: shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations.

It describes how significant wealth often fades within three generations of the person who built it. One common reason? The next generation was never truly prepared, only informed after the fact through a will or a trust distribution.

A legal estate plan decides who receives what, but it takes a different kind of planning to help them get ready for it. That preparation can include conversations about family values, the decisions that built the wealth, how it should be used, and what responsibilities come with carrying it forward.

We dig into this in a recent episode of Living Richly with Curo, "What We Tell Clients to Do Before Touching Inherited Money," including why we recommend a 90-day pause before making any big decisions with an inheritance. Listen here: https://livingrichlywithcuro.podbean.com/e/episode-97-what-we-tell-clients-to-do-before-touching-inherited-money/

Have you started that conversation in your family?

Why does financial anxiety persist even when your bank account is growing?

We often speak with women who’ve built impressive portfolios yet still experience stress when making major purchasing decisions. Your relationship with wealth was shaped long before you earned your success, and those early habits of vigilance don’t automatically turn off.

True confidence comes from knowing that your resources align directly with your values, allowing you to support your family, travel, and give generously without fear.

It’s time to enjoy the wealth you worked so hard to build.

In this episode, we’ll welcome Mary Lou Christie to discuss navigating unexpected transitions while finding new purpose and support. Here’s a sneak peek 🔎

👥 We encourage women to come to financial meetings and learn more about the work being done for them.

📝 In many partnerships, women may be the surviving spouse. Awareness of the financial picture is especially necessary.

🤝 Both people should be involved, or at least aware of what is going on.
