Our hearts go out to everyone throughout the Reno–Sparks community affected by the devastating Hawk Fire. We know friends, families, and members of our community who have been evacuated or have lost their homes, and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
As a local insurance agency, we also want to share some information that may help those who have been displaced or evacuated.
If you were under a mandatory evacuation, contact your homeowners or renters insurance company and ask about your Loss of Use / Additional Living Expense coverage. Depending on your individual policy and circumstances, coverage may be available for expenses such as:
Emergency hotel or temporary lodging
Additional dining or meal expenses
Food spoilage due to a covered power outage
Other necessary additional living expenses while you are unable to return home
Every policy and situation is different, so please contact your insurance company or agent to confirm what coverage applies before incurring significant expenses when possible, and keep all receipts and documentation.
We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, and everyone working tirelessly to protect our community, save homes, and bring this fire under control.
