Winter is among us and so is nasty weather. Here are some tips to help navigate the roads during the holiday season.
Avoid driving in snow and ice if possible
- A patch of ice can unknowingly sneak up on you. If you find yourself in this situation shift into low gear, do not make sudden turns and look where you want to go.
-If you are forced to drive in the snow, accelerate and decelerate deliberately. Prevent your tires from spinning and stay smooth with the wheel.
-Drive Slow!!
Check traffic and weather reports
-Weather in North Carolina can be sporadic as we all know. Make sure you are prepared for unknown situations.
-Navigation apps on your phone provide to the minute traffic updates. Make sure you stay hands free and delegate this task to a passenger or mounted GPS.
-Avoid backroads with steep hills and sharp curves as they are typically the last roads to be treated and cleared by the DOT.
Accidents cause headaches all year but especially during the holidays. Make sure to stay safe and mindful on the roads this winter.
