Bicycle Angels

Bicycle Angels Non-profit that loans road bikes to folks participating in fundraising bike rides and triathlons for charity.

Since 2009, we've helped raise over $4 Million for 30+ different charities. We have locations in several cities, and in several states.

08/13/2025

Bicycle Angels has decided to call it quits. We made this decision in early 2025 based on several converging factors, including the diminishing interest in charity bike rides, lowered fundraising (both for Bicycle Angels and for the charities we've supported), lowered volunteerism (we were an all-volunteer operation), and more.

Since our start in 2009, Bicycle Angels, through our free bike loan program, we helped about 2400 cyclists raise around $6 Million for over 35 different worthy charitable organizations, such as the AIDs LifeCycle, Fallen Officers Memorial, Leukemia Society, Tour de Pink for Breast Cancer, No Vet Alone, Best Buddies, Climate Ride, and many, many, more. We cannot list them all here.

We are sad to move on, but feel it is the right thing to do.

We greatly appreciate all the support and enthusiasm we received from many organizations, donors, and friends over the years, but now it is time to say farewell. Our doors are now closed to the public, and we are making some final arrangements for the disposition of bikes and funds, which will be donated to worthy charities.

Thanks again for supporting us...and remember to always keep the rubber side down!

Dear Bicycle Angels Past Recipients and Supporters

I hope you are doing well and that you might still be riding for your health and raising funds for worthy causes. For you, borrowing a bike from Bicycle Angels was a new experience that may have changed your life. Many of you after you were done with your event, asked if we sold our bikes as you wanted to buy the one that you borrowed from us. Unfortunately we had to tell you we were not able to do so. With our need for the various charities that were borrowing our bikes from us, we could not afford to let any of them go. But times have changed. COVID and the economy being the way it is has made it harder for people to commit to doing a charity ride and raising funds for them. Many of the organizations we support have reduce their events and participant numbers have decline greatly. One of the organizations (AIDS/LifeCycle-ALC) that borrows the most bikes from us has stated that this will be their last event. Our Los Angeles office has in the past loaned over 100 bikes per season to this event, now we are down to about 40. Our San Francisco location, 99% of their loans are for ALC. Therefore, we will be closing all our outside of Los Angeles locations and reduce our LA operation in the number of bikes we will keep in our fleet. We hope to keep the Los Angeles operation going, but if that proves to be unrealistic, then that might close too.

As such, we will need to sell off most the over 240 bikes we have. Prices will vary depending on year, make, model, frame material and level on components. Bikes will go for between $300 to $900 depending on bike. All sale will be in the Los Angeles location (we will be bringing the excess bikes form our other location to LA). So if you were at all interested in one of our bikes, please contact me at "[email protected]" so we can determine if we have a bike that will fit you and your price range.

We would like to thank everyone that has supported Bicycle Angels with donations of bikes, parts, accessories, and funds throughout the 15 years we have been doing this. We have helped about 300 recipients raise over $5.5 million dollars for over 30 different charities. Without your support, we would know have been able to accomplish this.

There's a rumor afoot that Bicycle Angels is closing down. That is not accurate.

What is true is that with the ending of the AIDS/LifeCycle in 2025, and with remote locations that are now or will be no longer justifiable, we have decided to get smaller and simpler. As an organization, we can't continue with all the costs of our footprint when our charitable role - and the amount of contributions - has declined. That's just not sustainable.

Between now and Q2 2025 we will be closing down all our offices outside of Los Angeles. San Diego, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Denver have already closed or will be closing shortly. San Francisco will close sometime in late March or April 2025 but is still loaning bikes for the 2025 ALC until the time it closes.

Our home/main L.A. location (in Redondo Beach) will remain open for the time being. We hope to keep it open well into the future.

The size of our fleet will be reduced as we get smaller, and we are selling a lot of our bikes. The funds from the sale of the bikes will be used to help sustain Bicycle Angels for some time.

If you are interested in purchasing one of our used bikes, please contact [email protected] in our L.A. office, and he can talk to you about what we have and the prices. A purchase may be a charitable contribution for your taxes, and there's some great deals to be had. We should also have many bikes to sell in April and may hold a public sale. Stay tuned for further details.

Thanks to all our supports and donors. If you have questions, please feel free to write [email protected]. If you'd like to donate, which is always very much appreciated, please click on the box above, or you can donate directly at our webpage, which is still BicycleAngels.com.

Many thanks to the Hermosa Friends Foundation (soon to be the South Bay Friends Foundation) for choosing us to present at the Quick Pitch contest last night! There were a lot of inspiring charities presenting with a lot of great missions being undertaken.

Although we were not chosen for the "winning" donation, we still received a $1000 donation, which is very helpful and much appreciated. We also received lots of nice feedback from the audience.
