Let’s Talk Business Insurance (Yes… the boring but IMPORTANT stuff) 👇
Insurance isn’t exciting — until you need it.
No matter what type of small business you run, here’s the simplified version of what you should be thinking about:
🛍 Market Stallholders
You need Public Liability (non-negotiable) and usually Product Liability. Many markets won’t let you trade without it.
🏬 Retail / Shop Owners
You need Public & Product Liability, plus Stock & Contents Insurance. If something happens (fire, theft, flood), you’ll also want Business Interruption cover.
🏡 Home-Based Businesses
Your normal home insurance usually does not cover business activities. You may need Public Liability, Product Liability, Professional Indemnity (if giving advice/services), and cover for your equipment.
👩💼 If You Employ Staff
You must have Workers Compensation (it’s mandatory in Australia). You should also consider management/employment liability cover.
💻 Service Providers (coaches, healers, consultants, creatives). Professional Indemnity is critical. This protects you if a client claims your advice or service caused them loss.
📦 Importers & Online Sellers
If you import and rebrand products, you’re often legally treated as the manufacturer.
Product Liability and Recall Insurance are extremely important.
Insurance isn’t about expecting the worst.
It’s about protecting everything you’ve worked so hard to build.
Quick question for small business owners — when was the last time you actually reviewed your policies?
