If you're a renter, you may think you don't own much of value - so don't need insurance. Not true! You might be surprised by the value of the personal items in your home, especially in these inflationary times.
And, these days landlords often require a renter's insurance policy. It covers much more than the value of the items in your rental home, such as:
- Personal liability: If someone is injured on your property and blames you, your renter’s insurance will usually cover liability costs, including legal bills. Standard policies cover $100,000.
- Living costs: If your rental is no longer habitable because of a covered issue, your renter’s insurance will help pay for your additional living costs.
- Other things like debris removal and credit card or check forgery can be covered in some cases.
