We’re on a mission

The higher education system in this country has been infected with a deadly virus……..

GREED…. that’s right Greed!!!!

Think about It logically for just a minute....

They offer you books, professors, lecture halls, labs etc etc.....

But all the information that is presented and taught is the work of all the brilliant people who wrote those books and through their own ingenuity were able to explain it to the rest of us.....

Now it’s great that we have these institutions to “house” all this information and knowledge and hire professors who can disseminate and articulate that information in an organized & effective way BUT.....

The institution itself doesn’t own that information, it’s not their intellectual property or product BUT...

They charge you for access to it....

This structure hasn’t changed since the concept of Higher Education was first introduced in America in the 1600’s BUT....

One BIG THING did change…….THE COST!!!!

For example, It seems highly unlikely that the original authors of the greatest textbooks ever written on subjects like Biochemistry or Mechanical Engineering, envisioned students having to take out $30,000 loans just for the privilege of reading their work......

It now costs $250,000 or MORE for a 4 year education, more than 5x the normal rate of inflation....

What other business could get away with this?...... Oh wait, I’m sorry they’re NOT a Business, they’re a “Not for Profit” organization…………hmmmm

Does any of this make any sense ????

It doesn’t, so what gives?......Simple- GREED

We’re on a mission to fight this immense Greed and show parents how to pay for college with the least amount of debt

529 Savings Plans are tax-advantaged savings plans designed specifically for educational expenses.
The downfall: Unlike a Roth IRA, a 529 Savings Plan is considered an asset according to FAFSA guidelines, so the amount it holds may reduce your child’s financial aid eligibility.
However, taking money out of a 529 does not count toward untaxed income the following year, whereas a Roth IRA does.

The point is 👉🏼 there are numerous factors to consider when saving for a college education and comparing the pros and cons of each can get overwhelming.
Contacting the right financial advisor or tax professional can help simplify the college funding selection process.

Aside from a 529 Savings Plan, here are some alternatives to consider:
- CDs or High-Yield Savings (with no monthly fees)
- Employer Tuition Assistance
- Micro-Investing Apps
- Low-Risk Stocks

Paying for college and exploring financial aid options can go from 0 to 💯 real quick.
One day, college feels doable, and in the blink of an eye, your focus is lost as financial anxiety creeps in.

That’s why College Funding is on a mission to simplify the process and keep your educational goals on track.

College Funding’s Financial Aid Roadmap
📍 First stop, FREE MONEY - Fill out the FAFSA annually to unlock financial aid options that don’t require payback.
📍 Next, discover and apply for scholarships and grants. Did you know nearly $100,000,000 in scholarship money goes unclaimed each year?
📍 Then, apply educational savings. Maximize funds held in 529 plans, Roth IRAs, and other educational savings accounts before considering student loans.
📍 But before turning to student loans, look for work-study options or jobs available on your college campus.
📍 Save loans for last, and don’t forget to compare the terms and conditions of various loan types.

Navigating your child’s educational future is only overwhelming when you don’t have the appropriate resources.
College Funding is here to help.

As a parent, being concerned about funding your child’s educational future is normal, but don’t push your retirement fund aside just yet. One of the most important rules to remember when choosing between the two is that you can take out student loans to fund your child’s education, but you can’t borrow money for retirement. Instead of pulling from your retirement savings, consider creating a budget timeline, opening a Roth IRA, and utilizing student loans.

Create a Budget Timeline – Before diving into where the funds will come from, first determine the cost of your child’s education. Compare price per credit, living options, meal plans, and work-study options. Knowing exactly how much you will need to cover takes out the guesswork for how much you need to save (or borrow), along with creating a reasonable payback timeline.

Open a Roth IRA – Roth IRAs are a great option for parents seeking to save for a child’s education AND their retirement. Unused educational funds will simply roll over as retirement savings.

Utilize Student Loans – Taking money out of your retirement should be the last resort. Utilize student or parent PLUS loans if needed to supplement the savings you’ve stashed away for your child’s education.

🎓 Top 5 Hidden Costs of College Room & Board Every Parent Should Know About! 🏠🍽️

Paying for room and board isn't just about dorms and dining plans — there are sneaky costs that can catch families off guard. Here are the top 5 hidden expenses to watch for:

Dorm Room Essentials – From mini-fridges to bedding, storage bins, fans, and surge protectors… outfitting a dorm can run $500+ before you know it.

Off-Campus Living Surprises – Think rent hikes, utilities, renter's insurance, furniture, or even parking fees if your student moves out of the dorms.

Meal Plan Gaps – Many plans don’t cover weekends or late-night snacks. Students often spend extra on groceries, takeout, and coffee runs. ☕🍕

Holiday & Break Housing – Dorms often close during breaks. If your student can’t come home, off-campus housing or short-term lodging may be needed.

Laundry & Everyday Living Costs – Washing clothes isn’t free on campus. Add in personal care items, cleaning supplies, and basic household goods.

💡 Pro Tip: These extras can add thousands to your college budget over four years. Planning ahead helps avoid nasty surprises.

Planning a college visit with your child? Don’t make the mistake of showing up to a campus tour clueless. Here’s what you should know before you go:

🗓️ Book in Advance – Schedule your college tour at least 3 weeks in advance, especially during popular times like holidays and spring break.
📍 Map Your Visit – Write down must-see elements such as the school library, the building of your major, dormitories, and local hangout spots.
💻 Conduct Research Before Your Visit – Discover crucial facts prior to your visit. Knowing the average class size, available work-study opportunities and the internship placement rate might take a college option off the market and prevent wasting time on a college visit that doesn’t fit your needs.
❔ Prepare Questions – Are there additional financial aid options after freshman year? Is there a question you’d love to ask a current student in your major? Have a list of questions you’d like answers to before visiting to make the most out of your campus tour.
💭 Sit in on a Class – Sitting in on a class during your tour will give you valuable insight into student engagement and teaching styles.
🙋🏼‍♂️ Show Interest – If the college visit goes well and confirms your college selection, extend a thank you and ask what the next steps are regarding applications and ways to enhance your application.
🚫 Trust Your Gut – Emotions are high during college visits, but don’t let that cloud your judgment. If something doesn’t feel right, remember to trust your gut and explore alternative options.

Staying local to take your education to the next level is one of the wisest financial strategies you can follow. On average, the cost of attending college out-of-state is more than double that of attending an in-state campus. When you factor in the cost of living for out-of-state colleges compared to living at home, the answer becomes clear – staying local is the best choice to secure a future of financial freedom.

Here are some additional local money-saving tips:
* Maximize Student Discounts – Many services, from bank accounts to bus passes, offer special student rates, so don’t be afraid to ask for them.
* Live at Home – Room and board is the second most costly college expense after tuition. There’s plenty of time to gain independence after graduation, so don’t start your career in debt if you don’t have to.
* Build Local Connections – Engaging with local alumni and professionals in your major can provide valuable insights into your future career field (and letters of recommendation). Don’t neglect the opportunity to make local community connections.
* Explore Local Scholarships & State Grants – Numerous state-specific funding options are available for college expenses. Determine what additional financial aid you are eligible for just for staying local.

When it comes to paying for college, there’s no place like home.

Feeling powerless over federal funding and financial aid freezes?
While the decision to reduce college funding for future generations may be beyond your control, there are 4️⃣ pivotal factors you can focus on to overcome this hurdle and finish on top.

1. Don’t get distracted by what’s on the news – Lock in existing federal aid by filing your FAFSA as soon as possible.
2. Don’t wait to determine if your awarded financial aid is sufficient - Proactively apply for all scholarships and grants you may be eligible for.
3. Don’t rush to take out student loans - Compare loan options carefully and explore other financial aid avenues first.
4. Don’t give up – Even if you decide to take a gap year, use that time wisely to return stronger and more adequately prepared.

Navigating this difficult time in financial aid is just another challenge to conquer, and it might just be your student’s first lesson in dealing with adversity and building resilience.

When to file a financial aid appeal with your college:

- Change in Financial Situation
* Divorce
* Unexpected Medical Expenses
* Job Loss

- GPA Improvement
* Institutional or state aid may offer additional financial assistance based on academic achievements.

- Better Financial Aid Offered by Another School
* When making a college selection, if another school offers a more favorable financial aid package, don’t hesitate to ask your preferred college to reconsider theirs.

💡 Tip: Even if your appeal is not approved, don’t forget to inquire about additional work-study opportunities or alternative grant options that may be available to students.
