A deductible is the amount you pay out of pocket before your insurance coverage kicks in after a covered claim.

Example: If you have a $1,000 deductible and your covered damage is $5,000, you would pay the first $1,000 and your insurance would cover the remaining $4,000.

When choosing a deductible, make sure it’s an amount you’d be comfortable paying if the unexpected happens.
