SimplePractice users, I could use your help.

I recently submitted a billing-related feature request through the SimplePractice Community, and it has been added to the SimplePractice Feedback Portal.

The request is focused on expanding Billing Profiles so they can handle more payer-specific billing requirements automatically.

Right now, many of us are forced to either maintain payer-specific settings on individual client records or manually edit claims before submission. In larger practices and billing organizations, that can mean a significant amount of manual work every month.

At Golden Bee Billing Services, we submit approximately 4,500 claims each month. Due to payer-specific billing requirements that cannot currently be accommodated through Billing Profiles, nearly 1,000 of those claims require manual review and correction before submission.

While these workflows are manageable, every manual touchpoint increases administrative burden, consumes staff time, and creates additional opportunities for human error.

Examples of functionality that could be managed through enhanced Billing Profiles include:

• Payer-specific modifiers
• Telehealth requirements
• Rendering provider NPI requirements
• Supervisory billing scenarios
• State-specific billing rules
• Additional claim-level payer requirements

The goal is to configure these rules once and have them automatically apply during claim creation rather than requiring manual changes at the client or claim level.

I’m the founder of Golden Bee Billing Services and the creator of Ask A Biller™.

I’ve been in healthcare admin and billing for over 20 years, working primarily with mental health providers and group practices across the U.S.

I created the Ask A Biller ​™ group to be a space where providers at any stage can come to learn, ask questions, and connect. Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been in practice for years, there should be a place where you can get clear, accurate information without feeling overwhelmed or getting conflicting answers.

This is also a space for real connection. You’re building a business, not just providing care, and that can feel isolating. My goal is for this group to support not just billing conversations, but growth, collaboration, and networking within the mental health community.
