Is a roth conversion worth it?

It means you pay taxes now on money you'd otherwise pay taxes on later, in exchange for tax-free growth. It can make sense in a lower-income year, but converting too much can push you into a higher bracket.

Most people only use about a third of what their HSA can actually do.

With open enrollment season here, it's worth a second look.

We're covering the triple tax advantage, a new rule that opens up HSA eligibility for a lot more people, and some lesser-known ways to use the funds you've already built up.

Full details in our latest newsletter.

If you have a health savings account, there's a good chance you're only utilizing about a third of its capabilities. Most people treat it as a place to park money for copays and prescriptions, then forget about it. There's a better way to use it, and with open enrollment approaching, now's a good ti...

Can leftover 529 funds really be rolled into a Roth IRA?

Under current rules, yes, within limits, and only once the account has been open long enough.

Most people think of an HSA as the account they use for copays, prescriptions, and doctor visits.

But an HSA can do considerably more.

Contributions can reduce taxable income. The money can grow tax-deferred. And withdrawals for qualified medical expenses are tax-free.

That's the famous "triple tax advantage."

But the less obvious benefits may be just as interesting. HSA funds can potentially help with long-term care costs, Medicare premiums, and healthcare expenses in retirement.

An HSA isn't just an account for today's medical bills. For some people, it can become an important part of a long-term financial plan.

The 401(k) strategy that worked for you in 2025 might not work the same way in 2026.

Contribution rules are shifting, particularly around catch-up contributions for people turning 50 and older.

How those amounts get taxed isn't identical for everyone this year.

Starting in 2026, if your wages from your employer were over $150k (indexed for inflation) in the previous year, your catch-up contributions must be in Roth.

While that means these catch-up contributions won’t reduce current-year taxes, it also means you get to build up your Roth account.

Autopilot is convenient until the rules underneath it move without telling you.

Does it still make sense for you to make the catch-up contributions, or should you invest those funds elsewhere?
