🔒 A Few Simple Steps Can Help Discourage Vehicle Break-Ins

Vehicle thefts and break-ins can happen almost anywhere, and thieves often look for quick opportunities. A few simple precautions may help make your vehicle a less attractive target:

🚗 Lock your vehicle every time you leave it — even for a few minutes.

🎒 Take valuables with you or place them out of sight before arriving at your destination. Purses, wallets, electronics, charging cables, sunglasses, and even loose change can attract attention.

💡 Park in well-lit, visible areas when possible, especially near building entrances, cameras, or streetlights.

🔐 Consider anti-theft devices such as steering-wheel locks, alarms, or immobilizers.

👀 Stay aware of your surroundings. If something doesn’t feel right, consider parking somewhere else.

📞 Report suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

It’s also a good idea to review your insurance policies and ask your agent how your auto, homeowners, or renters coverage may respond following a theft or vehicle break-in.

For example, comprehensive auto coverage may provide coverage for certain damage to an insured vehicle caused during a theft or attempted theft, subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, and deductible of the policy. Personal belongings stolen from a vehicle may instead fall under homeowners or renters insurance, depending on the policy.

Can Life Insurance Help With Student Loan Debt?

Student loans can follow you for years after graduation—but what happens to that debt if you pass away before it’s paid off?

The answer depends on the type of loan.

Federal student loans generally have provisions for discharge after the borrower’s death. Private student loans can be different, and the terms of the loan may determine whether a co-signer or another party could still have a financial obligation.

That’s one reason student loan debt can be worth considering when evaluating your life insurance needs.

Life insurance benefits may provide funds that beneficiaries can use for financial obligations, including certain debts. The appropriate amount and type of coverage will depend on your circumstances, goals and budget.

Middle Creek Insurance can help you explore available life insurance options and discuss the coverage you’re looking for.

🚗 Driving for a Transportation Network or Delivery Network Company

👤 Drivers

❓ Do you drive for a transportation network or a delivery network company?

When it comes to auto insurance for rideshare driving (Uber, Lyft, etc.), or a delivery network platform (Uber Eats, GrubHub, Door Dash, Instacart, Amazon Flex, etc.), the most important thing you need to know is that personal auto insurance policies do not cover you or your vehicle for the ownership or operation of a vehicle while it is being used as a public livery or conveyance.

⚠️ This includes but is not limited to any period of time that the insured is logged into a transportation network platform as a driver, whether or not a passenger is occupying the vehicle. This also includes delivering goods for any delivery network platform.

📋 If you use your vehicle to drive for a transportation network company or delivery network company, it is important to disclose this information to your insurance company so you can ensure you are properly covered.

Not disclosing this information to your insurance company may lead to denial of potential claims that may arise and jeopardize any voluntary coverage the company may offer you, such as collision, comprehensive, towing, etc.

🚘 Some insurance companies may offer endorsements or different types of automobile policies to provide the needed coverage when driving for a transportation network company.

☎️ Talk with your agent or insurance company to make sure you are adequately covered under your auto insurance policy.

In addition to notifying your own insurance company, you may also want to speak with the transportation network or delivery company you drive for as they may also offer certain additional insurance coverages.

9 Insurance Questions North Carolinians Should Be Asking

Insurance isn’t just about having a policy—it’s about understanding what your policy says.

If you own a home, drive a vehicle, or operate a business in North Carolina, here are a few questions worth discussing with your insurance agent:

🏠 HOME
• Is my homeowners policy subject to Consent to Rate (CTR)?
• How does my policy address wind, hail, and flood?
• Are my home and belongings settled at replacement cost or actual cash value, and under what circumstances?

🚗 AUTO
• Are my liability limits appropriate for my insurance needs and budget?
• What Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is shown on my policy?
• Does my policy address the way I actually use my vehicle, including any business use?

💼 BUSINESS
• Does my business meet North Carolina’s requirements for Workers’ Compensation?
• Should I ask about Hired and Non-Owned Auto coverage based on how employees use vehicles?
• Does my policy include Business Income/Business Interruption coverage, and what events trigger it?

📌 North Carolina’s minimum auto liability limits are currently 50/100/50, but minimum requirements are only one part of evaluating your insurance.

Policies, limits, exclusions, deductibles, and eligibility vary by carrier and individual circumstances.

Middle Creek Insurance can help you review available options and find solutions to address your insurance coverage requirements.

What Is No-Fault Insurance?
You may have heard the term “no-fault insurance,” but does it apply in North Carolina?

North Carolina is not a no-fault auto insurance state. Legal responsibility matters when an accident claim is evaluated. Liability coverage may pay for injuries or property damage sustained by others when an insured driver becomes legally responsible, subject to the policy’s terms and limits.

North Carolina drivers may also purchase Medical Payments coverage. When included in a policy, MedPay may assist with eligible accident-related medical expenses regardless of fault, up to the selected limits.

MedPay is a separate coverage and is not the same as Personal Injury Protection or a statewide no-fault system.

Questions about the coverages listed on your policy? Middle Creek Insurance can help you review available options based on your expressed needs and budget.
