More than 300 families in Virginia were facing eviction until a historic Black church stepped in and paid off their $1 million debt.

Alfred Street Baptist Church partnered with Alexandria Mayor Alyia Gaskins after the city's Redevelopment and Housing Authority reported losing more than $1 million in unpaid rent from 445 of 1,000 public housing units. ARHA pointed to job market challenges, the rising cost of living, and lingering effects from the pandemic.

Nearly half of ARHA housing residents had debt on their accounts and were facing eviction. On Easter Sunday, Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley told his congregation the partnership raised more than $1 million. "You have helped stop the eviction of 338 families to the cost of $1,049,000," he said.

The church previously gave over $130,000 to clear college balances for 11 graduates.

A man in Kansas City is accused of pulling off an unusually bold scam using Facebook Marketplace. According to investigators, Mamadou Diallo, 24, allegedly sold his car to more than eight different buyers, only to later track them down and steal the vehicle back each time.

Prosecutors say the victims were defrauded out of more than $24,000 in total. The scheme reportedly involved forged paperwork and repeated resales of the same vehicle, with buyers believing they had legally purchased the car.

Diallo now faces 14 felony charges, including vehicle tampering and forgery. If convicted on all counts, he could face a maximum combined sentence of up to 98 years in prison. Authorities stress that the investigation is ongoing and that the sentence mentioned represents the legal maximum, not a final judgment.

The case highlights how risky online marketplace transactions can be when trust replaces proper verification.

When you owe money on the vehicle it will ruin your credit if you can’t payoff the balance in full. Then you still need another loan and that becomes almost impossible if you have that balance and no trade! I have seen this!!!
