What happens when you spend a couple of days surrounded by people who challenge you to think bigger, care more deeply and keep growing? You come home with a lot to think about!
This week, we spent a couple of days with our partners from Carson Group at their annual conference and the messages of connection, growth and showing up for others seemed to weave through the entire experience.
Seb Terry shared his experiences to illustrate that while we are strong alone, we are better together. Carson Group CEO, Burt White, challenged us to reflect on what it means to be human, while Jesse Itzler shared a powerful message about becoming a “spiritual billionaire";measuring wealth by the richness of our experiences, relationships and lives.
Carson’s Dani Fava gave us a glimpse into technology advancements and tools that will help us continue to better serve our clients. We spent time with experts discussing modern planning for modern families, advanced planning strategies, marketing resources and much more.
And we met the iconic Rob Lowe! He shared his story of constant reinvention and living a big life. What a treat!
One message particularly resonated with me. Carson founder, Omani Carson, and Burt talked about the importance of showing up for each other, even when it isn’t convenient, and surrounding yourself with people you can grow with. Burt also reminded us to “zig while others zag.”
That brought me full circle to something my sister taught my niece as she was growing up: blend out, not in! It’s an idea I’ve always loved and have tried to embrace in my own life.
Ryan Detrick and Sonu Varghese recorded a live episode of Facts vs. Feelings and shared another message I appreciated: they won’t always be right, and they won’t always be wrong, but they will always be there, providing research, timely ideas and answers so we can do our best work for our clients. We so appreciate them.
Colonel Nicole Malachowski, former Air Force fighter pilot and Thunderbird pilot #3, closed the conference with her remarkable story of harnessing headwinds and building a culture of caring, compassion and shared commitment. It was a fitting way to end an event filled with reminders about the importance of growth, connection and community.
And somewhere in between all of that, we were entertained by the Goo Goo Dolls, caught up with old friends and made new connections within the Carson community.
We came home energized, grateful and with new ideas to bring back to our team and, most importantly, to the clients we have the privilege of serving.
