We’re excited to be a matching sponsor in the WCIL Gives campaign this week! We donated the first $500 toward Monday’s ALICE story and that donation will be matched dollar for dollar, meaning your gift can make twice the impact.
Every donation helps support hardworking individuals and families in Adams County who are living as ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Join United Way of Adams County, Inc. (Adams County, IL) this week, follow along with our ALICE in La La Land stories, and help our donation go even further.
Allow us to introduce you to ALICE… we mean Lorelai. Lorelai Gilmore.
Lorelai is awake and heavily caffeinated on this Monday morning. First order of business? Get the coffee brewing, the Pop Tarts popping, and drag Rory out of bed before heading off to another busy day running a local inn.
She’s quick-witted, charming, and seemingly always holding it together. But underneath the banter and caffeine is something many single mothers know all too well: the constant pressure to keep everything afloat.
Am I doing enough for my child?
Am I doing enough at work?
Am I doing enough for my community?
Am I doing enough at all?
And then comes the financial strain.
Because even in a charming town like Stars Hollow, unexpected expenses don’t care how hard you work. If Lorelai’s beloved Jeep breaks down on the way to work, does she pay for the repair or stretch the food budget a little thinner that week? If a leak destroys the flooring in her home, does she fix it immediately or risk living with mold because the mortgage is due?
These aren’t dramatic television plot lines. These are the kinds of decisions hardworking people in our own community make every single day.
People like Lorelai Gilmore live right here in Adams County. We know them as ALICE: Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. They go to work. They raise families. They contribute to their communities. They do everything “right,” and still find themselves one emergency away from impossible choices.
This week, we ask you to think about the Lorelai Gilmores in your own life. Your neighbors. Your coworkers. Your friends. Consider making a donation to help lighten the burden so many hardworking families quietly carry every single day.
