We will never forget!!
Five years ago today, 13 American service members and at least 170 Afghan civilians were killed in the attack at Abbey Gate, an entrance to the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. Today, we remember them.
Five years later, the weight of this day remains.
For the families who carry their absence every day. For those who served beside them. For an entire military community that understands the weight of war is carried long after the mission ends.
The Global War on Terrorism Memorial will ensure that their sacrifice is remembered by our nation for generations to come.
Today, we pause to say their names, honor their lives, and remember.
We will not forget.
