In a word... Wow
As kids, we have the opportunities to create core memories relatively often. Moments and events that happen to us that truly leave a permanent impact on our lives. As we grow older, the opportunities to create these memories become fewer and far between. Weddings, the birth of our children and their milestones, are some of those opportunities that I will cherish the rest of my life.
Outside of those instances, few events can creep into the "core memory" territory. This past week, I had the opportunity to create a new one. I will truly never forget the feeling of walking around the corner and seeing The Old Course for the first time. Or the feeling of standing on the first tee just praying to make contact. Or walking down the 18th fairway with a great friend laughing out of disbelief and asking ourselves "How did we get here?" The golf was mixed with some good (great?) shots, and some shots we'd like to forget. "FORE RIGHT" was shouted more times than I'm willing to admit. Don't get me wrong, there are several shots, good and bad, I'll always remember. But the true core memories will be those feelings of disbelief and awe, the fellowship, conversations, and the shared experiences. Hopefully this wasn't a once in a lifetime event. But if it was, I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to create a new core memory.
