😳🚨 The storms recently have packed quite the punch! 🥊 Monday morning calls are rolling in and the damage from quick drone flights of clients are showing significant damage 😔
I feel terrible for these clients, it is tough to see them go through these experiences having a good year and then have to deal with the headaches this brings, longer harvest, wear and tear, machine breakdowns, etc etc. It’s tough! 🤦‍♂️
💨🌽 Glad these clients have wind coverages added on their hail policies, but we still would prefer good quality standing corn
Be sure to check your policies and scout fields for any potential damage we need to be made aware of PRIOR to harvest starting 🚜

😱This year our area has seen cold wet planting season followed by dry weather then excess rain…. 🌧️ Final numbers and each field is going to be quite variable I think.
This is a good year to keep harvest data records impeccable and take time to keep track of loads.

🌽The moment we've all been waiting for... the 2026 RVC Crop Tour results are in!

Over the past week, you've followed our team across eastern Iowa and western Illinois as we walked fields, pulled samples, and shared observations from Crop Week.

This year's tour included 745 samples collected August 10-20.

2026 Crop Tour Results

🌽 Iowa Average Yield: 200 bu/ac (218 bu/ac in 2025)

🌽 Illinois Average Yield: 199 bu/ac (217.8 bu/ac in 2025)

Overall, the 2026 corn crop is projected to finish 10-20 bushels per acre below last year.

Excessive moisture, nutrient deficiencies, uneven crop development, and pollination challenges from extreme heat all played a role in reducing yield potential. Hail, green snap, and lodged corn also impacted some areas.

While yields are expected to be lower than last year, there are positives. Plant health and stand consistency were generally stronger, and many fields still show respectable yield potential heading into harvest.

Thank you to everyone who followed along during Crop Week and to our team members who collected samples and shared updates from the field. We're looking forward to helping our customers navigate harvest and start planning for a successful 2027 season. 🌽

8AM UPDATE‼🚨 Our derecho is possibly beginning on schedule this morning - with 75MPH wind gusts already noted in , and an 80mph report in with this compact, but very powerful bow echo.

The sun is up and will make quick work building instability on the swampy airmass out ahead of this system, which should allow for at least maintenance - and possibly strengthening of the system.

The projected path will bring it towards the area. What remains to be seen is whether or not the system will expand into more of a large squall line, or remain a compact bow echo!

Many severe and tornado warnings have already been issued, and this will continue as the morning progresses!

This will be a HUGE help to farmers feeling the pinch and potential significant losses across the nation, and here in our state as well.

Farmers will get a two-month reprieve on their crop insurance premiums this year and USDA will also reinstate prevented planting buy-up coverage as well, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Tuesday.
