As of this moment (1/2/2024 at 9:05 AM), the FAFSA is still not really open. Colleges are sending out emails that the form is now open, but the studentgov website clearly states that it will only be open for short periods of time. This major change is already turning out badly. So much for simplification!

My annual share of a chosen article I call "What not to do, because it makes a mockery of the system and is only for self promotion." The only reason the student did this was to "go viral' and "make history." There can be no other purpose in my opinion. What do you think?

This is so ridiculous... the typical federal student loan balance is $27,000. Over a ten-year period that is about $275 per month (a car payment not a mortgage)!

In a new interview with Yahoo Finance, progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said that Biden could endanger the country if he doesn't cancel student debt.

I have been working with students for 24 years and have had ONE student who defaulted on a loan. ONE! Out of thousands! The article itself quotes a current congresswoman as stating "Like 85% of Black students, I had to borrow; and like so many of those students, I also defaulted on those loans." She should be embarrassed. Defaulting on loans is not about ethnicity! Its about knowing the difference between right and wrong. One must work really hard to default on a loan... that means being 278 days late!!

I coach students to be responsible, independent, and confident. There is no "default" in our vocabulary because it is not worthy of a place of honor.

Take a few minutes to read the article. If the information is correct, then the new FAFSA changes offer only one good thing for parents/students and a multitude of good things for colleges. Recent changes have all proven great for colleges and not so great for parents/students. The college lobby must be incredibly strong!

Applying for college financial aid will soon get easier, but some single parents and those with multiple kids in college may not be happy about other changes on the way.

Please DO NOT follow the advice of Student Loan Hero!! This is potentially the second biggest mistake one could make... the first was having to take such an incredible amount of debt while earning $300,000 per year. Simply disgusting. If you follow this advice, you will get exactly what you deserve.
