We have tried to educate our insurance family for years that doing this was not the correct way and that if there was a claim there could be issues as well as the state could fine them if they were caught.

It seems like more and more places are seeing these letters. If you live in MD and that is where your vehicle is primarily garaged at and have it tagged in another state like this the state is cracking down on it.
