Social Security was never meant to replace your income.
On average, it covers about forty percent.

For higher earners, usually less.
Claiming early reduces benefits.

Claiming later increases them.

And a large portion can still be taxable.
Social Security is a foundation. Not a retirement plan.

A common retirement myth is that taxes automatically go down.
In reality, many retirees face higher taxable income than they expected.
Required Minimum Distributions start at seventy three.

Social Security can become taxable.

Medicare premiums can increase based on prior income.
Retirement does not eliminate taxes.

It changes how they show up.

Most people spend their careers optimizing W-2 income.
The tax code rewards something very different.
Employees are taxed when income is earned.

Investors are often taxed only when gains are realized.
Wages can be taxed up to thirty seven percent.

Long term capital gains top out at twenty percent.
This is why long term financial independence is about structure, not just income.

Most people try to earn more to fix their tax problem.
Wealthy families focus on how income is taxed, not just how much comes in.

Social Security becomes taxable. Medicare premiums rise based on old numbers.
These rules stack together. That is why retirement tax planning has to happen early.
