Back-to-school season is right around the corner, and it's a great time to go over a few safety reminders with your kids before they head out for the day. No matter how they get to school, a little preparation goes a long way.
Walking to school:
• Use sidewalks whenever possible
• Cross only at crosswalks
• Make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the road
• Walk with a group when they can
Riding a bike:
• A properly fitted helmet is a must
• Ride on the right side of the road with traffic
• Stop completely before crossing
• Choose low-traffic routes with fewer intersections
Taking the bus:
• Stand at least 6 feet from the curb
• Wait for the bus to stop before boarding
• Never cross in front of or behind the bus without confirming the driver sees you
Getting dropped off:
• Follow your school’s drop-off procedures
• Obey school zone speed limits
• Never pass a bus that is loading or unloading
Teen drivers:
• Buckle up every time
• Put phones and devices away
• Stick to the speed limit
