Chris Baker of Austin, Texas has dedicated his life to serving others. In 2017, Chris founded The Other Ones Foundation, a nonprofit that offers humanitarian aid, case management, and extremely low-barrier work opportunities to people experiencing homelessness in Austin. Since its inception, The Other Ones Foundation and its partners have helped over 160 people move into stable housing; removed nearly 2 million pounds of trash from green spaces in Austin; provided 25,000 showers in their shower trailers; and paid over $1.5 million in earned income to people experiencing homelessness. Chris finds inspiration from his late mother, who always said, “Success is measured by how you make those around you feel.” Currently, the foundation is building a complex of 200 individual shelter units that will bring community members out of the elements and into a safe, dignified living space. The residents have voted to name the site “the Esperanza Community” to signify the hope that Chris and The Other Ones Foundation have inspired. Visit toofound.org to learn more.
