The black vulture population has been on the rise in southern and central Indiana. Unlike the turkey vulture, the black vulture is known to prey on young livestock, causing injury and sometimes death.

Producers who are Indiana Farm Bureau members can apply for permits through INFB that allow legal takes of black vultures to protect their livestock.
