Life is full of questions, here's several that plague our broader society:

What could we do with all of our excess time? Spend it with family? Volunteer in our community? Exercise more? Learn new things and challenge ourselves? School teaches us to work hard and become a well-rounded individual, but those lessons tend to stop after school. We get caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose sight of self-improvement.

If we were to keep a wholistic viewpoint, focusing on work, family, and our own well-being equally, wouldn’t all areas of our life improve as we would be more fulfilled? We all are after all, a product of our own thoughts and feelings.

This is why we offload responsibilities, to spend less of our time on things that aren’t necessarily “filling our cup”.

For our younger clients, this is one of the best value adds we can provide. We map out their goals and watch over their finances, so they don’t have to. Giving people more time by taking things off of their plate is a logical and easily understandable value add to grasp.

We all have different spending habits, in finance and with our time. Maybe we should focus more on how we spend our wealth of time to get the most out of ourselves.

What's one thing you could offload to save time? Opportunity cost is a thing after all!

Time is our greatest commodity.

I say this knowing that time is precious, and like money, it can disappear, at best, gradually, at worst, all at once. There was an interview I saw recently with several billionaires that described managing money as a game of monopoly. It comes and goes. You do your best to invest and protect it but it fluctuates in good times and opportunistic ones. Maximizing time though is something you can manage.

Graham Duncan is an investor and philanthropist who coined the term “Time Billionaire”. The concept is that if the average human lifespan is 78 years, each person has at least 2 billion seconds to live. By age 31 you’ve spent your first billion seconds. By the time most of us reach retirement financial independence, we’ll have spent more than 2 billion of however many seconds we ever had.

I might still be a “Time Billionaire”. You might still be too. But someday we won’t be, and there is just no changing that eventuality.

So, what do we do about it? How do we budget and balance the spend-down of our most precious resource? Perhaps in addition to being financially independent we should also be talking about ways we can be fulfilled with and maximize our time.

The summer is coming up fast, and that has the whole CoFi team planning exciting trips for the warmer weather.

This month the CoFi team is sharing our summer plans to remind ourselves why we do the work that we do.

Right now, my partner, Kaylee, and I are daydreaming of Positano, Italy. It’s the place that we are going to stay when she graduates from her medical rotations. In the meantime, we’re essentially rotating across Maine for the next year.

Our practice manager, Shae, says: "I'm looking forward to heading to my Fiancé's family lake house on Great East Lake. It seems like just yesterday we were here, but not too long ago we were on skis. I am looking forward to soaking up the sun on Great East Lake."

As summer approaches, the CoFi team and I are sharing moments we are looking forward to for our summer vacations. It reminds us all: the work we do enables us to have moments like these. What plans are you looking forward to this summer?

Here's Wheeler's moment: he is looking forward to heading to the White Mountains of New Hampshire with his family.

This month we are bringing you recommendations of resources that we love.

Our next resource is the book, The Psychology of Money!

We recommend it because, "Understanding your relationship with money – how you think about it, feel about it, react to it and why – is almost as important as what you do with it. Morgan Housel does an excellent job of explaining breaking down complicated subjects and normalizing the funky, loaded relationships we all have with finance."

What are some financial resources that have made a difference for you?
